Attention: Valued Checker de Cup,
No, not the Atkins diet! I’m talking lifting functionally (i.e. squatting, dead-lifting, cleaning, pushing, pulling & pressing) doing so with HEAVY weight and then crushing carbs at night. It seems totally counterintuitive to almost everything that you’ve learned about nutrition I know! Maybe that’s the point, because after all if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten (or something like that). If you’re a “no stone left unturned” kinda person, this is worth a look.
Originally recommended to me by the strength and conditioning staff at the University of San Diego, this way of eating and training is laid out in detail in a book I read, recommend and implement personally called “Carb-Backloading” by John Kiefer. The guy may be nuts, but it is tough to argue with his straight forward writing style, easy to follow guidelines for what foods to go for and oh by the way his 20+ pages of sources dripping with science based research.
NOTE: I’m not a doctor. So don’t take my word for it. But if you’re looking for a (non-PED drug) edge this offseason, Carb-Backloading is the next best thing. Pack on mass, stay lean.
Read up, ask questions and enjoy!
Lift heavy, eat like a fat boy and be jacked and ripped? c’mon.
The Cup Check…protect the goods.
