HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! A glimpse inside Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World by: His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Before you get all freaked out… “what does the Dalai Lama have to do with minor league baseball?(probably nothing) More importantly, what does he have to do with ME!? You’re getting too DEEP buddy, stick to posting up people getting hit in the nuts.” Hear me out here.
This short book can be summed up in one word, “compassion.” If you don’t get around to reading this book for yourself, this excerpt from it will give you almost everything you need,
“So the human capacity to care for others is not something to be taken for granted. Rather, it is something we should cherish. Compassion is a marvel of human nature, a precious inner resource, and the foundation of our well-being and the harmony of our societies. If, therefore, we seek happiness for ourselves, we should practice compassion; and if we seek happiness for others, we should also practice compassion!” -The Dalai Lama
The take home: no matter your race, color or creed the secret to happiness is COMPASSION. Being outwardly generous and empathetic with our teammates, family members and people in our community will make our world a better place to live in and it will make you more happy and fulfilled as an individual.
So, if you think being happy and fulfilled will make you play better baseball, then maybe the Dalai Lama has everything to do with minor league baseball. You decide.
