Hey there Cup Checker,
Recently Jovan Belcher, formerly a linebacker with the Kanas City Chiefs, murdered his girlfriend and then took his own life shortly thereafter. Jovan was 25 years old.
As I read the story and saw the news, I was deeply saddened. I felt for his three month old daughter who will grow up without her parents. I was shocked at how he is my age. I started thinking about all of us young men, making our way through the minor leagues and how Jovan wasn’t to dissimilar from us. We all have frustrations and issues and baggage to some extent or another but at what point does it have to come to this? As teammates, brothers, sons, family men and people, “what really matters?”, is an important question and one we should reflect on in light of this tragic event.
I came across this interview featuring Chiefs Quarterback Brady Quinn. I wanted to share this video in hopes that you may gain perspective and think about the relationships you have right in front of you, in baseball and out.
